The aim of this day is to draw attention to the important role jackals play in nature and to reduce the number of conflicts between people and wild animals.
All jackals share similar traits: small to medium size, similar appearance, and lifestyle.
In Ukraine, including in the Kuialnytskyi National Nature Park, the golden jackal (Canis aureus) can be found.
Should we be concerned about the presence of jackals?
Jackals do not attack people. They have a varied diet, with a large portion consisting of plant matter and carrion. An attack is only possible from an animal that is sick. That’s why timely vaccination of domestic animals and immunization of wild animals is essential.
Jackals are important for ecosystems. They occupy a special niche in nature, and their role in maintaining natural balance is invaluable. Therefore, we should treat these fascinating mammals with respect and understanding.
