The Research Department of Kuialnytskyi National Nature Park is a team of experts who study the nature of the Kuialnyk Estuary every day to preserve its unique richness. Their work includes researching flora and fauna, monitoring changes in ecosystems, and developing measures for their restoration.
Why is this important?
Scientific research is the foundation of effective nature conservation. It helps us not only to better understand the ecosystems of the Kuialnyk Estuary but also to develop practical solutions for their protection and restoration.
We don’t just observe nature — we work to protect it. Every discovery, every analysis, and every measure we implement helps nature thrive and allows people to explore its beauty.
The specialists of the Park’s Research Department are true nature explorers who work daily to preserve and restore the unique biodiversity of the Kuialnyk Estuary. Their work is not just about data and reports — it is a world of discoveries and care for the environment.
As part of the Chronicle of Nature program, they study the vegetation of the park. This means they walk through the territory, conduct geobotanical surveys, and record the types of plant communities found here. Special attention is paid to those listed in the Green Book of Ukraine, as they are true natural treasures. The information collected helps compile a list of unique biotopes significant not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
What about birds, animals, and even bats? Our researchers regularly monitor the populations of waterfowl and waders, study reptiles and amphibians, and track predatory mammals and even bat wintering sites. They assess the status of rare species populations listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine and international conservation lists.
They also observe seasonal changes in nature — from the blooming of the first spring flowers to the autumn migration of birds. This helps to better understand how nature changes throughout the year and how we can support these processes.
Another important aspect of their work is the study of alien plant and animal species. Some of them can threaten the local flora and fauna. Based on such research, the specialists develop recommendations on how to restore ecosystems and protect them from negative impacts.
But that’s not all! They organize Scientific and Technical Council meetings, discuss key conservation issues, and share their experiences at forums, seminars, and round tables. The results of their work are reflected in scientific papers, articles, media appearances, and publications on social media.
The Park’s specialists are not just observers of nature — they actively work to protect it for us and future generations. Their work is rooted in a deep love for every blade of grass, every bird, and every corner of our planet.
Key research areas
As part of the Chronicle of Nature program, we study the park’s flora through geobotanical surveys and identification of plant communities. Special attention is given to rare species listed in the Green Book of Ukraine. These data help compile a list of unique biotopes significant not only for Ukraine but also for Europe.
We regularly monitor the populations of waterfowl and wading birds, reptiles, amphibians, and predatory mammals, and study bat wintering sites. Special focus is placed on species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine and international conservation lists.
From the first spring blossoms to the autumn bird migration — we record seasonal phenomena to better understand nature’s cycles and forecast ecological processes.
We analyze the impact of invasive plant and animal species that may threaten local ecosystems and develop measures to control them.
We organize Scientific and Technical Council meetings, participate in forums, seminars, and round tables, and share research results through scientific publications, media, and social networks.
